One of the important keys to employee motivation is to empower employees to be successful.

An empowered employee leads to increased creativity, motivation, initiative, ownership, productivity, teamwork, and results for your company.

The following are five motivation techniques to empower employees to produce extraordinary results.

You can motive your employees:

1. To Find Solutions
When an employee communicates a problem or concern to you, this is a chance to empower the employee. Ask the employee how he/she would solve the problem, support them with the tools to solve the problem, express your confidence that they are the person to solve the problem, and follow up with them.  Allowing employees to find their own solutions will also make your team more productive.

2. By encouraging ideas & coming up with their own goals
Asking your employees for their opinions tells them that you value their input and motivates them to produce results. Empower your employees by creating a safe environment to share their ideas. You will be amazed at some of the ideas that will be generated when employees feel safe! Help employees develop their own goals. Once employees feel ownership of their goals, they will be motivated to move quickly to help accomplish your goals.

3. By Delegating Tasks
Delegation is one of the most powerful motivation tools for empowering employees in the workplace. Delegating a task shows your employees that you have the confidence that they can do the job. Make sure you communicate clearly and concisely how to do the task. Delegation includes providing the tools for successfully completing the task, providing your employees with ownership of the task and acknowledging the rewards for completing the task and following up accordingly.

4. By Assigning Leadership Roles and Allowing your Employees to Run Your Meetings
Leadership comes at all levels and doesn’t require a title. You can align your employees’ skills with leadership opportunities.  Provide training for each employee so that they are empowered to step up to new opportunities. There are also many opportunities for you as a leader to let your employees run portions of or the entire meeting. Work with the employees ahead of time so that they are confident with the assigned meeting tasks. During the meeting, you can support them by helping with any sections of the meeting that may provide challenges for them. By allowing your employees to play leadership roles in your meeting, you will develop your employees for future opportunities and open additional opportunities for you as a leader.

5. Motivate Your Employees by Rewarding Initiative & Embracing Mistakes
Reward employees who take initiative. A great way to motivate employees to take initiative is to reward and publicly recognize employees during meetings, team outings, etc.   Allow your employees to make mistakes so they can grow. Create a safe work environment so that when your employees make mistakes, they are not punished. Use the mistakes your employees make as learning experiences. Ask your employees how they would have performed the task differently and allow them to do the task again. Your employees will gain a new sense of empowerment and feel confident that you are really supporting them.
