The first Employee Appreciation Day was in 1995.  It is always on the first Friday in March. A Recognition Professionals International’s founding Board member, together with his publishing company, Workman Publishing, created Employee Appreciation Day as a way of focusing the attention of all employers, in all industries on employee recognition.

Employee recognition is more powerful than any other motivator. Personalizing recognition can create memories that some employees will remember forever. When employees feel appreciated, they not only produce more results but they usually stay with your company longer.

Employee Appreciation Day

There are many ways you can recognize staff on Employee Appreciation Day and EVERY DAY!  Here are 5 quick free or low cost  ideas:

1. Schedule a birthday,  lunch, or an employee appreciation day with employees. Let them select the location and use the time to get to know them better.

2. Connect employees to powerful mentors that can support them with their career goals. Allow employees time to meet twice a month.

3. Send a handwritten note of thanks for the completion of a job well done.  Or, send an email thanking your employee for a job well done and cc the CEO/Director.

4.  Find out where your employee wants to be in 3 years and give them projects that will support   their growth. Provide training opportunities for employees.

5.  Be kind, listen and say thank you.  Employees know when you care about them.  This is a priceless gift.
